I have been thinking about the state of hunger in America and there are a lot more hungry people than I had imagined. Why is this? California produces vast amounts of food and yet its communities still go hungry. Is this simply a problem of access?

ReplyDeleteAs a student, on a regular basis, I see the same people begging for food; they are so desperate they will often eat out of garbage cans, find scraps from people's leftover foods, and sometimes become violent in search for a bite to eat. Every day, I see the same people starving and begging; why is there no improvement? Will these people be starving for their entire lives because in order to get money, they will need a job which would include nice clothes, a shower, food-things that these starving, homeless people do not have access to.
There is one church that I have seen that feeds the hungry but only on certain days. How can the city, the state, the country, the world help these people pick themselves up and not only give them a meal but the access and ability to provide a meal for themselves?
Hunger..poverty...
ReplyDeleteHunger Abroad:
Here in italy (sicily to be exact), there are many illegal
immigrants that stand at traffic lights eager to wash your windshield
for change. Or you see kids at cafes walking around asking for money.
I have or some of my italian teammates have offered to give these kids
some food and they refuse to take the food.
